Yep, this is me!

Emily Cross

I’m a part time freelance photographer. I think of my style as observational and creative, and love capturing spontaneous behind-the-scenes moments. I prefer being outdoors shooting landscapes and wildlife, and also love the buzz of city streets and storefronts. When I’m not shooting for documentary “reportage”, my artistic influences lean toward pictorialism and impressionism using intentional camera movement, infrared, and alternative printing methods like cyanotype. As a musician, compositionally I aim to make images that suggest musicality in two dimensions, such as visualization of sound through line, texture, and patterns. My work has been described as “haunting” and beautiful.

I typically work with a digital camera in natural light, and also shoot film (35mm and 120mm) and off-camera flash (profoto B10).

In my other job as an engineer I help utilities move toward an energy portfolio more invested in clean and renewable energy. As such, I aim to ensure my photography business practices are energy efficient and sustainable such as by using AI only on an intentional opt-in basis; minimizing my cloud storage footprint by using solid state backup devices; and charging my devices using solar power.
